Multicomponent imaging with distributed acoustic sensing

چکیده
The usage of Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) in geophysics is rapidly gaining popularity due to its dense spatial sampling and low operation cost if the optical fiber is easily accessible. In the borehole environment, optical fibers for DAS are often readily available as a part of other sensing tools, such as for temperature and pressure. Although DAS provides single axial strain measurement along the fiber, the entire strain tensor can also be recovered through a combination of purposefullydesigned optical fiber system. Such reconstruction uses multiple strain projections acquired by manipulating the geometry of the optical fiber. The availability of the entire strain tensor opens the possibility for exact elastic wavefield extrapolation, thus avoiding the generation of nonphysical wave modes that contaminate migrated images.

Multicomponent data usually are not processed with specifically designed procedures but with procedures analogous to those used for single-component data. In isotropic media, the vertical and horizontal components of the data commonly are taken as proxies for the Pand S-wave modes, which are imaged independently with the acoustic wave equations. This procedure works only if the vertical and hor...
متن کاملTiO2 based surface acoustic wave gas sensor with modified electrode dimensions for enhanced H2 sensing application
The design and optimization of nanostructure-based surface acoustic wave (SAW) gas sensor is analyzed based on TiO2 sensing layer and modified electrode dimensions. The sensitivity of the gas sensor depends upon the type of sensing layer used and active surface area obtained by varying the aspect ratio. The performance of the sensor is observed from 0.1ppm to 100ppm concentration of ...
متن کاملEffects of multiple scattering, attenuation and dispersion in waveguide sensing of fish.
An ocean acoustic waveguide remote sensing system can instantaneously image and continuously monitor fish populations distributed over continental shelf-scale regions. Here it is shown theoretically that the areal population density of fish groups can be estimated from their incoherently averaged broadband matched filtered scattered intensities measured using a waveguide remote sensing system w...
متن کاملMulticomponent distributed acoustic sensing: Concept and theory
Distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) data are increasingly used in geophysics. Lower in cost and higher in spatial resolution, DAS data are appealing, especially in boreholes in which optical fibers are readily available. DAS has the potential to become a permanent reservoir monitoring tool with a reduced sensing time interval. To accomplish this goal, it is critical that DAS can record all wave ...
